About this movie:
\nOperation Petticoat is a 1959 American World War II submarine comedy from Universal-International, produced by Robert Arthur, directed by Blake Edwards, that staring Cary Grant and Tony Curtis. The film tells in\u00a0flashback\u00a0the misadventures of a fictional\u00a0U.S. Navy\u00a0submarine, USS\u00a0Sea Tiger, during the\u00a0Battle of the Philippines\u00a0in the opening days of the\u00a0United States involvement in World War II. Some elements of the screenplay were taken from actual incidents that happened with some of the\u00a0Pacific Fleet’s submarines during the war. Other members of the cast include several actors who went on to become television stars in the 1960s and 1970s:\u00a0Gavin MacLeod\u00a0of\u00a0The Love Boat\u00a0and\u00a0McHale’s Navy,\u00a0Marion Ross\u00a0of\u00a0Happy Days, and\u00a0Dick Sargent\u00a0of\u00a0Bewitched.
\nPaul King, Joseph Stone,\u00a0Stanley Shapiro, and\u00a0Maurice Richlin\u00a0were nominated for the\u00a0Academy Award for Best Writing\u00a0for their work on\u00a0Operation Petticoat. The film was the basis for a TV series in 1977 starring\u00a0John Astin\u00a0in Grant’s role.<\/h5>\n
